Health Systems Engineering is a discipline that consists of the scientific study and application of systems engineering methods to improve the value of healthcare delivery.

Approximate Duration: 2 hours

This course will address the following competencies important for Healthcare Delivery Science:

  • Demonstrate the ability to differentiate between problem-solving and process improvement while understanding the fundamental operations of the healthcare system
  • Demonstrate the ability to use theory and conceptual models such as DMAIC, Lean Six Sigma, and Project Management to design and improve healthcare operations
  • Demonstrate the ability to employ basic System Engineering methods such as facility layout logistics, patient flow, staffing and scheduling, and inventory/resources management in complex healthcare settings
  • Demonstrate the ability to use organizational systems and processes to design and improve the healthcare system
  • Demonstrate the ability to improve all aspects of logistics, including patient care and staffing schedules, to improve patient care
  • Demonstrate knowledge of behavioral science principles used in healthcare to modify physician and patient behavior
